What kinds of rare and valuable/collectible things do people often end up having hidden in storage?
I occasionally read stories about people who end up selling some old thing they had in storage for lots and lots of money, and I’m just curious what type of things one should look through to see if they have any such value. old trading cards? old books?

Books and paintings. Books usually turn out in the storage a lot. First edition books are always taken for granted. Paintings, usually show up as gifts and hand me downs. A lot of people who are not informed about art usually missed these valuable items because they lack the knowledge.
when i rented my first house there was a statue of queen victoria in the loft.
i kept it for several years and had it priced at an auctioneers.
turns out to be worth hundreds.
it’s part of a pair. if i had both they’d be worth several hundred.
any kind of ornaments, furniture if it’s in good condition and looks to be hidden away could be worth a lot of money..
you don’t keep valuables sitting around in full view.
