Is there a California state tax (FTB) equivalent to claiming “Currently Non Collectible” status like the IRS?

I want to claim currently non collectible to the IRS. Can I do the same for the California Franchise Tax Board?

You don’t claim it, you establish that you are currently not able to pay. FTB grumbles a lot, but if you can’t pay they will put the file on the back burner.

Yes, but you have no say; it’s their decision. When they find that you have no assets or income stream, they will so classify you and review your case periodically.

Typically, this is reserved for people with health issues, though there are exceptions
