How Do You Determine The Value Of A Collectible Item?

I have this collectible envelope thingy for the space shuttle Columbia. My mom got it for me back in 1981 and I don’t plan on selling it but I’m just wondering if it’s worth anything.

If any others exist, see what they are selling it for. Other than that, the only way you can truly tell is sell it or hire a professional appraiser.
