Can you spend collectible coins in regular stores?

I have a few collectible coins that are about 5 years old, and I want to use them to buy something.
Will the store take the coins?
Is it legal to use collectible coins??
Thank you

yes you can, but they are collectable for a reason
If it has a denomination (i.e.: dollar, half dollar, quarter dollar, dime, five cent, cent, etc), it is legal tender and can be used to buy things. Why would you want to spend a collectible half dollar when it might be worth $2 to a collector? Five year old coins are not typically worth much over face value though proof coins can be.
